24 things I realized once I turned 24

As of today, I will be 24, unemployed and happy. Wow! Too much going on. But listen to this first. I’m super thrilled by this. Don’t think I’m nuts, wait and read along. So directly after my last summer trip in August 2017, I finished my masters with a distinction. But I started work 2 weeks prior to finishing my thesis (and I was on top of the world, because job opportunities are not easy to find and it was at a very reputable university)

Anyways, long story short, did I enjoy my work? Nope (but who does?!). It wasn’t because I had a bad boss (he’s great tbh!) but I wasn’t reaching my full potential and wanted more. But in a country with few job opportunities, I was in it for the experience if I wanted to eventually move up.

But after going through an emotional roller coaster, I said enough is enough. My physical and mental health were, and still are, important and my happiness was too. I applied to soo many positions that I lost count of them, followed by rejection after rejection. I was waiting for a sign from God to find something more suitable.

So I applied to a Masters program in Geoinformation in GREECE (which is basically something I am passionate about but you won’t read it here on my blog – Or do you?), and in less than a month and 2 interviews later (To check if I’m not a robot, my English was good and my technical skills). So guess what!! This girl is going to Greece!! I knew it was God’s way of giving me a chance to excel in something I know I want to do.

So it was a tough year (emotionally growth peeps!) and today I turn 24, and what I learned this year exceeds all my past 23 years:

  1. Pray to God, as he will always listen. You can’t imagine how much your heart will be filled with relief once you get it all out
  2. Quit if it doesn’t feel good. Don’t stick with something you hate
  3. Believe in your capabilities
  4. Don’t let anyone knock you down
  5. Out use your resources to grow and figure out how to make it work
  6. Keep on learning and stay motivated
  7. Work on your communication skills. You can’t imagine how important this is
  8. Your first job is not always were you will be in 5 years from now. So, learn from it
  9. You don’t need a billion friends, you need a few close friends that you will always share your best and worst times with
  10. Real life is way worse than school and you won’t be prepared for it. No one actually is
  11. You need days off to disconnect
  12. Most times, your opinion won’t count and you won’t have any say in it
  13. Show enthusiasm even if you hate what you are doing. Good vibes peeps
  14. Live a little and love a lot
  15. Your health and happiness are the only things that matter at the end of the day
  16. Be positive. Because good energy attracts more good energy in your life, even if you are dealing with a lot of crap
  17. Don’t be afraid to say NO
  18. Make time for the people who mean the most to you
  19. Compose yourself during arguments. Don’t answer anything when you are angry. I’m still managing this one
  20. No matter how hard you think you have it, someone else out there has it harder and is fighting
  21. You are never too old for Disney movies
  22. Eat your veggies and take your vitamins and supplements and get regular checkups. Because by now, you should be able to schedule appointments for yourself
  23. Always be mature but still a kid at heart
  24. and 24 is an even number! Even numbers make me happy

So here is to growing up, embarking on new adventures and sharing new stories

Until next time,
