Well, It says that the parties who sign it want to work on stabilizing the increase of global temperatures to only +2degC by the end of the century, with work on making the +1.5degC seem feasible. However, to make that happen, the countries need to sign and submit ratification tools to do such a thing, and it is said for the Agreement to go into full force, it would need the signing of 55 countries that contribute 55% of total global greenhouse gas emission. UNdispatch had an article on Oct 4,2016 that stated:
On Sunday, India formally ratified the Paris Agreement. And on Tuesday, the European Union did the same. Now, in the coming days several individual European countries are expected to ratify the agreement which will put the agreement past the required threshold for entry-into-force of 55 countries representing 55% of total greenhouse gas emissions.
That’s supposed to be good news, that change is occurring at a faster pace than what was thought to happen. But what would that mean for countries that haven’t submited ratification tools? Only time will tell.
